Then we roll out a mat and lie down. If you cannot lie on the floor there are tables that you can lie on. Then Dorothy Kristin verbally directs the class through a one hour movement lesson designed to awaken the brain to how the body is designed to move. The body begins to let go of what it is holding, because the nervous system is what holds the body in it's disorganized patterns that can cause discomfort or neurological difficulties, within the body's system. When you learn to move less and become aware of what you are doing, while you are doing it, the fog lifts from the mind. It seems like being in the present moment of awareness, brings an overall calm state to the body and mind, as if it were a movement meditation. Life itself, becomes easier when the brain, becomes aware of what the body can do. Wear soft comfortable clothing with socks. You may always take layers of clothing off, to work with a desired body temperature. We do have blankets. She understands that diagnosis can be a neurological holding that can cause disorganization within the central nervous system. One must learn how to offer gentle ease movements that are natural to the overall mechanics of the skeleton in order to change the way the body feels, senses and moves. The area that holds disorganization, amnesia and stillness are the areas of pain, stress and tension. Ms. Hanna believes that healing is possible through movement. As in all modalities one must apply themselves to learning a new way of being, living and existing. In the world of recovery one must let go of past habits and patterns in order for change to be possible. The lessons then lead one, down the path to a tranquil peaceful meditative body, that is aware of itself moment to moment. No one is totally aware, but studying awareness, is a path of learning, changing and evolving. When some people come into the method, they feel like things are impossible. After a few lessons, their body begins to learn a new vocabulary, and the nervous system begins to change. The nervous system is in charge of movements, thoughts, feelings, and sensations. When we offer change to the way we move, through these gentle movment lessons, the mind and body meet and harmonize and begin to feel wholeness. When the body moves as a whole structure the innate intelligence of DNA remembers. The body's intelligence says, "Oh, yes. This is how I was designed to move. I remember this is how I moved as a child, before I had all the obstacles, challenges and heartbreaks that my growing pains gave me - as I moved into adulthood." Then the body learns a new way of moving, not only physically and mentally, but intellectually. So, allow your body to change as you move into gentle ease; moving and breathing at the same time - the way we were designed to move and be. Ms. Hanna's, Functional Integration® Lessons and Awareness Through Movment ® Lessons in her healing room at 555 Herndon. Group Lessons are ten dollars and are given at 2 in the afternoon on Mondays.
