Naikan - looking inside
Naikan is a Japanese word that means "looking inside."
It is an approach to self-reflection developed by Ishim Yoshimoto (1916-1988), who was a devout Buddhist of the rigorous Pure Land sect. He sought to develop a method of self-reflection that could be more accessible to people. The result is a simple but profound process of answering three questions. The process can be done regarding the day just lived, a personal relationship, a past event, a specific period of time in one's life, an object, one's job environment.
Naikan provides an opportunity to deeply explore the truth of one's life.
