Butoh - dance step

Butoh is a Japanese word that means "dance step."

It originated in the upheaval and crisis of post-World War II Japan, through the work of Ohno Kazuo (1906-     ) and Hijikata Tatsumi (1928-1986).  Butoh has been described as the Zen of dance.  It has stepped past dance as emotion and story expressed through movement. It is inspired by butoh-fu which can be thoughts, feelings, memories, words, drawings, sensations, objects, events, nature.  In Butoh, intention is surrendered and intuition is set in motion.
