Butoh - dance step
Butoh is a Japanese word that means "dance step."
It originated in the upheaval and crisis of post-World War II Japan, through the work of Ohno Kazuo (1906- ) and Hijikata Tatsumi (1928-1986). Butoh has been described as the Zen of dance. It has stepped past dance as emotion and story expressed through movement. It is inspired by butoh-fu which can be thoughts, feelings, memories, words, drawings, sensations, objects, events, nature. In Butoh, intention is surrendered and intuition is set in motion.
Butoh provides an opportunity to experience the awakening of the true nature of the self.
